This former gymnast from Detroit completed his education with degrees in computer engineering and performing arts from Michigan State University. His keen interest in dance led to performances on stage and in film. His credits include the National Tour of Camelot starring Richard Harris, a part in the film Poison, and an appearance in a new production of Benvenuto Cellini at the Metropolitan Opera.
Ray’s career in adult entertainment began in 1990 when the iconic Jim French photographed him for Colt Studios. He instantly achieved coverman status, and it was during this time that he left the adult business and embarked on his twelve year career in fashion.
Starting with $1,500.00 in severance pay and several bags of sample fabric, Raymond Dragon went on to create an eponymous internationally recognized fashion label. He first established himself within the gay community designing body conscious sportswear, and he is now recognized as a industry leader for having introduced stretch fabrics to men’s fashion. His strong, masculine appearance appealed to a gay audience, and his clothes accentuated the homoerotic physique.
His clothes have been featured in Details, Vanity Fair, The New York Times, Cosmopolitan, Detour, Out, Ocean Drive, Rolling Stone and The Advocate, and have appeared on Broadway in shows such as Rent, Chicago, and Fosse. The dance companies of Alvin Ailey, Martha Graham, Paul Taylor, and the Royal Copenhagen and Frankfurt Ballet Companies have used his clothes for costumes. He recently designed the costumes for the off Broadway play The End of the World Party, for which he received critical acclaim from the New York Times.
He has been photographed by renowned photographers such as Jim French, David Morgan, Tom Bianchi, and Aaron Cobbet, and his image has graced the cover of Genre, Metrosource, HX, and Colt Studios’ magazines, videos, and calendars.
Ray returned to the adult business with an outstanding performance in Titan Media's award-winning outdoor epic Gorge, directed by Bruce Cam. This was followed by his return to Colt Studios, where he was directed by John Rutherford in the outdoor feature Reload. He was recently directed by the legendary Joe Gage in two Titan features, 110˚ In Tucson and Deep Water Beach Patrol Parts One & Two.
With his own production company, Dragon Media, he has received numerous AVN nominations and won an AVN Award for his release Whiplash. As a one man production studio, he designs and programs his own website www.raydragon.com as well as filming and editing his own movies. But it has been photography that has captured his imagination.
